Division One side Tropical Royals are trying to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Namuwongo Blazers. The Namuwongo Blazers is one of the teams that gained promotion to the top National Basketball League. And the Tropical Royals are making moves to emulate just that.
The club coach who also doubles as the Managing Director of the club wants the team to support the community through sports. They have set up an academy with the aim of nurturing talent in different sports.
The club was set up in 2016 with the aim of establishing a multi sports academy in Uganda.
They joined the Federation of Uganda Basketball league Division One in 2018. They came out 13th out of 16 in their inaugural season. In 2019 before the COVID pandemic, they improved to 9th position, narrowly missing a chance in the playoffs.
As the season returns, they hope to put up a strong challenge that will lead them to promotion to the NBL.
Many organizations have shown their belief in the team by coming out to support the team through different sponsorship deals.
Bella Hibiscus has signed up to provide branded equipment to the club.
ABII clinic will provide free medical support to players, academy players and staff and academy staff.
Red paper online will provide support as the club’s media partner until late 2022 in addition to free coverage and support of the brand.
