Mbarara City FC threw away a chance to go top of the FUFA Big League table after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Northern Gateway FC at the gate stadium in Lira on Thursday 19th January.

The Ankole Lions who came the game unbeaten in the last three matches took a 1-0 lead through a rare figure in Otude Ivan.

The visitors controlled and enjoyed the biggest share of the possession but fail to stretch the lead hence into the break 0-1.

At the very start of the second half the home team leveled matters in the 46th minute through Eya Solomon to a 1-1 and held on to the very final whistle.

A win would have taken Mbarara City FC to the top the table with 32 points after Kitara were held by Kaaro Karungi FC to a 1-1 draw in Ibanda.

The result meant Sadiq Sempigi side remained second on the table with 30 points, one below leaders Kitara FC.

This was Mbarara City FCs sixth draw of the season after fifteen games. They have won eight and lost one.

Mbarara City FC’s only defeat of the season came away to Luweero United 2-1 at the Kasana play ground Kosovo.

The Lira side Northern Gateway FC ended first round bottom of the table with ten points collected from fifteen games.

They have managed only two wins, beaten nine times and drawn four scoring thirteen and conceding thiry three goals.

At home Nothern Gateway FC scored seven and let in twenty one goals in the seven matches, winning only one, drawing four and losing two.
