Uganda’s Charles Kagimu will be the only Ugandan representative at the Tour du Rwanda. Kagimu is among the five bikers selected to represent team Bike AID after the team was finally granted permission to race outside Europa.

The team which comprises Erik Bergstrom Frisk (Sweden), Salim Kipkemboi (Kenya),  Ande Van Engelen (Netherlands), Nikodemus Holler (Germany) and Charles Kagimu (Uganda) will compete against 15 other teams in the 8 stage event.

It has always been a childhood dream for Chaerles Kagimu who is in his early 20s to participate in the event after drawing inspiration from Ziyada Mekseb Debesay who won the African tour in Rwanda  in 2014 .

The 23 year old Kagimu said, “I have always dreamed to be in this race! Back in 2014 when I was 16 years old I watched when Ziyada Mekseb Debesay won the Africa Tour here in Rwanda for BIKE AID and my dream was born! To ride one day for this team and this race in particular! Now, 7 years later I am here and so excited!”

The week’s long event kicks off today Sunday May 2nd 2021 and will end on Sunday May 9th 2021. The bikers will be required to complete 29 climbs in the 913,3 Km race with 16.347m elevation.
