The Cranes U-20 beat Burkina Faso 5 – 3 on spot kicks to advance to the semi-finals of the 2021 AFCON U-20. This last 8 triumph sees them set a date with Tunisia on Monday evening.
The Hipos qualified for this tournament as champions of the CECAFA U-20 and they have so far shown the mantle worthy of regional champions. The collected wins against Mozambique (2 – 0) and hosts Mauritania (1 – 2) and finished only second to Cameroon in group A.
By qualifying for the semi-finals, the Hipos have also earned themselves a spot in the FIFA U-20 World Cup. And if they manage to go past Tunisia, they will face Ghana that edged out the Gambia in the other semi-final played on Monday.
Morley Bekwaso’s squad has been spurred by performances of spot kick hero Jack Komakech, skipper Gavin Kizito and Police FC’s Derick Kakooza who leads the scoring chart with two goals and an assist in a bid of putting a claim of Ugx 740M which FUFA promised the team if they win the tournament.
