The senior Ugandan soccer team has less than three weeks to prepare for crucial AFCON encounters with Burkina Faso and Malawi. The Cranes camp can however not be described as calm.

News came in of an injury scare. And this time it is the skipper Denis Masinde Onyango on the sick bay list. The seasoned custodian was substituted in the 46th minute following what appeared to be a twisted ankle as Sowndowns ran riot against Algerian side CR Belouizdad in Dar es Salam.

Speaking to the Media, coach Mngqithi allayed fears of a serious injury to the goalkeeper by stating that Onyango only sustained minor bruises and he is expected to be available for the Brazillian’s next match.

Coach McKinstry may also have reason to worry especially in the defensive sector where things are not also clicking for FC Ashdod defender Timothy Awany. He was at fault for the first goal as he failed to clear the ball in Ashdod’s 3-1 loss to Maccabi Tel Aviv. Both Awany and Fahad Bayo started the game but were all substituted in the 59th and 76th minutes respectively. Unusual for defenders unless form is in question.
