Uganda 64-82 Angola
Uganda Silverbacks had a rough ride in their first FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 African Qualifiers
They lost to continental giants, Angola 64-82.
Angola thrashed Uganda despite the latter winning the last quarter 22-14.
Angola was led by Bruno Fernando, who plays for the Houston Rockets, who scored 16 points, followed by Gerson Concalves and Jose Dimitri Maconda, who scored 15 and 11 points, respectively.
Deng Geu had a game-high 17 points, Ishmail Wainwright only managed 16 points, and Jimmy Enabu finished with 10 points in a losing effort.
Coach George Galanopoulos and his Silverbacks now concentrate on the Ivory Coast game to bring breath to the team.
The Silverbacks will play Guinea on Sunday to wrap up this window after Ivory Coast.
In February of the following year, the second and final window will be conducted as African countries compete for five World Cup spots.
