In the Rugby 7s, each game has two halves of fourteen minutes. Uganda managed to go into half time of their first game in the lead against Argentina. However they could not hold on to the lead in the second half which was mostly their own doing as they were outplayed by the South Americans and lost control to end the game a man less. The game ended 31-14 to Argentina.
Next game was against Canada. The difference in quality was clear to see when the two teams went into the break 40-05 to the North Americans. Ugandans were majorly poor in contact and couldn’t match their opponents physicality as the game progressed in the second half. They went on to lose 40-05 at full time.
Japan Vs Uganda was the last match of the day for Uganda.
This was a closely contested affair but the Asians were slightly better at the breakdown and Japan went on to win the contest by a close score of 19:12.
Phillip Wokorach continued to put in the tries with Norbert Okeny also registering one. Joseph Aredo contributed with a conversion but that was not enough to secure a win for Uganda.
Those are three losses in three games for Uganda in the Red pool on day one. Uganda face off with France in the Men’s cup quarter finals which will kick off at 10:34 EAT and coach Tolbert Onyango will be looking to improve on the display that was showcased by the players on day one.
