Edward Golola, one of the best coaches in Ugandan football, yesterday granted Tooro United their wish by getting them a direct promotion to the Ugandan Premier League like he promised when he was hired. During his unveiling in August, the former Vipers coach , the tactician promised to promote the club to the Uganda Premier League, and yesterday, he fulfilled his promise and to assure the club’s fans, he remarked that  a the decision to appoint him was wise cited himself as a winning coach

After drawing with Luweero United and failing to seal their direct promotion with one match to spare, Tooro United were in a tricky situation which demanded great character and leadership from the manager and the players. The former Vipers gaffer was quoted by media as demanding character from his players during their last game against Kigezi Home Boyz, as they needed a win to qualify directly to the Upl.

Golola’s side managed to pip their visitors Kigezi Home Boyz 1:0 at Wankulukuku thanks to Marvin Oshaba’s 17th minute penalty in order to qualify ahead of Proline FC in the Rwenzori group. The tactician had this to say after their win against Kigezi Home Boyz, “It was not a simple game, the visitors had no pressure like us but my boys managed to follow instructions and kept in character.” He continued by recognizing that it was not an easy season but he was happy he had fulfilled his goal

Tooro United were relegated last season when the league ended abruptly with five games to play after a lockdown was imposed on all activities due  to the outbreak of Covid-19.

Tooro United together with Arua Hill today were promoted directly to the UPL and they will be joined by the winner of the playoffs amongst Proline, Nyamityobora, Blacks Power and Gaddafi FC.

Edward Golola will forever be remembered by Tooro United as the coach who delivered on his promised to take them back to Uganda Premier League. It is not clear if he will stay with the club next season as there is speculation he might return to Vipers who are currently in the market for a new coach.
