Express FC forward Eric Kambale and Coach Wasswa Bbosa have won the Pilsner Player and Coach of the month awards respectively for the month of May.
The two were crowned on Monday morning in an event at the Kati Kati restaurant and each walked away with one million Uganda Shillings courtesy of Pilsner Lager
Kambale beat URA FC striker Steven Mukwala and Wakiso Giants Viane Ssekajungo for the player of the month after scoring eight goals in five games.
He had a hat-trick against Kyetume Football Club in Nakisunga, a brace against Kitara Football Club and a goal each against UPDF Football Club, Busoga United Football Club and Police Football Club, the very performance helped him to win the Fortbet Real Stars Award as May’s best in the football category.
The Congolese international has had an excellent season scoring 15 goals for the Club, which enabled him to make it on the list of the 34 players who were summoned for National duty in the preparation of the recently concluded friendly game between Uganda Cranes and South Africa.
Kambale joined a growing list of Congolese-born players including; Hassan Bajope, Bana Zidane, and Ekutchu Kasongo who have gone on to play for the national side, having featured for top Ugandan sides KCC FC, Express, and SC Villa.
In 2003 defender Bana Zidane, midfielder Assani Pitcen and Ekutchu Kasongo then playing for Express, KCC, and SC Villa respectively were included in the squad that was due to play AFCON qualifiers against Rwanda and Ghana as Uganda sought to break a 24-year jinx then, by qualifying for the AFCON.
Zazak Lingaya, Ayew Mbo, Ederi Mvambane, Toto Songe among others are the other Congolese players that set alight the Ugandan League in the late‘90s and the last century but did not play for the Cranes.
Coach Wasswa Bbosa edged URA’s Sam Simbwa and Wakiso Giants’ Douglas Bamweyana for the Best Coach of the month of May.
Bbosa guided his side to the top of the Uganda Premier League log with five wins in five games in May.
Soltilo Bright Stars duo of Samuel Ssekamate Kayongo and Baker Mbowa won the April’s Pilsner Player of the Month and Coach of the Month Awards respectively.
