In UG sports’ first of a series of fun and facts about your favourite UPL club, we bring you interesting bits and pieces about Onduparaka FC

Did you know?

The club’s playground, the AbaBet Greenlight Stadium is found in Onduparaka village in Arua. It is called Paruku in the local language of Lugbara, meaning “No escape” in English.

Onduparaka FC’s first league game in Uganda top flight football was against Soana FC in 2016, and it ended 0 : 0.

Onduparaka’s most humiliating defeat in the UPL came away to KCCA in form of a 7 : 0 defeat, in the 2017 season at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

In its first international friendly of the 2017 season, Onduparaka beat Gor Mahia 2 : 0 at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole on 4 February 2017, in a game that Kizza Besigye watched clad in a green jersey and offered Onduparaka FC 2 million Uganda shillings.

Onduparaka was the only team to finish the 2017 season without being beaten at home for the entire UPL season


Onduparaka’s biggest ever away win in UPL was a 5 : 0 victory over Police FC at Nambole in 2018.

Onduparaka’s highest  finish in the UPL is 4th position in the 2018 season.

The next generation of Onduparaka FC stars are called Ondunyiri. In Lugbara, “nyiri” means little or small like children.

Onduparaka FC’s first lively televised game at the Greenlight Stadium was played on the 18th of November against Jinja Kirinya SS (now Busoga United) in the 2017/2018 UPL season. Kabon Living (aka Messi), donning the number 13 shirt, scored the only goal of the game from a Mohammad Shaban assist in the 88th minute to give Ondumparaka a win over the team from Jinja.

Kabon took off his shirt and somersaulted in the goal celebration. He received a yellow card for indecency but his goal leapfrogged Onduparaka to 3rd place below SC Villa and KCCA.
