Express FC is a great legendary football club. It is based in Kampala City and iis one of the oldest clubs in the UPL. They are Red Eagles of African football and they play their home games at Muteesa II Wankulukuku Stadium.
That is really greatness as greatness may be!!!
But Express hasn’t been that great in the recent past. Not especially the last two seasons of the Uganda Premier League.
That was until this current season was declared open.
Few people would have predicted at the start of the season that Express was going to fight for the honors that are embedded in its history. Leasing a table of the UPL was a far off thought considering that they had narrowly survived relegation last season.
The acquisition of the services of Uganda Cranes defender in the name of Murushid Juuko seems to be what Coach Wasswa Bbosa’s Red Eagles needed. His partnership with Enock Walusimbi and Issa Lumu has created a strong back which has seen the Red Eagles keep clean sheets against Police and even table leaders URA.
Using the services of goalkeeper Denis Otim in the absence of Mathias Muwanga towards the end of the first-round fixtures, the Red Eagles have the second meanest defense in the league, only bettered by Police in the league this season having conceded 7 goals in the 15 matches played.
In all their matches this season, 87% of the time we have seen the Red Eagles from Kampala, scoring the opening goals.
Among the top five teams, Express has the lowest number of goals scored (22 goals) and it will be a defining factor in their bid to set claim on the title they last won in 2012 under Sam Ssimbwa, the current URA manager.
The club’s leading goal scorers so far this season in the names George Ssenkaaba (6 goals) and Godfrey Lwesibawa (5 goals) will need to utilize their chances by improving their shooting sharpness, if they are to maintain their position on the top four.
Additionally, more goal scoring chances need to be created for the two strikers as the club seek to score more going into the second half of the season.
Final Report Comment: Express FC look set to once again be a force to reckon with in Ugandan Football. It is clear that they may remain in the higher positions of the Uganda Premier League all till the end of the season. UG sports sees a top 4 finish for this legendary outfit. They will definitely bring the best out of the other contenders and give them a run for their money. The Red Eagle is back.
