Despite the raging  COVID-19 pandemic that has almost shut down all major world activities in recent months, one event that has sports men and women out of breath in preparation is the Tokyo Olympics. Today we bring you an Olympic update about our very own Halimah Nakaayi, a Ugandan middle distance female runner who has lauded coach Addy Ruiter’s expertise as she prepares to represent the country at the Tokyo Olympics.

Nakaayi is well known for her Doha 2019 World Championships gold medal, where she represented Uganda and managed to bring back a gold medal. Nakaayi is currently working to get herself in perfect shape ahead of the women’s 800m event at the Tokyo Olympics. Her participation in the Tokyo Olympics comes as no surprise to anyone given her talent. Rans will be watching and cheering her on hoping that she manages to bring back a gold medal come August.

Talking about her preparations for the Olympics, Nakaayi the former 2019 Doha World Championships gold medalist highlighted the importance of teamwork while lauding coach Ruiter’s contribution.

Nakaayi was quick to post this on her social media platform, “Teamwork is very important, thanks to coach Addy Ruiter for the wonderful training sessions, may the almighty Allah answer our prayers,” she wrote on her social media.

Nakaayi is currently training with fellow Tokyo Olympics-bound Ugandan runners Ronald Musagala (1500m) and 10,000m world record holder Joshua Cheptegei. The three athletes are putting in a lot of effort to bring magic to Team Uganda during the Olympic Games in Japan.
