Hippos sink Mongers into Dam Waters with a bonus point

Last game of the Rugby Premier League 2021 saw Hippos take on Mongers rugby club. Where they aimed to end the season on a high with a win after 3 losses in a row. 

Mongers rugby had conceded more points than they had scored this season while Hippos Rugby were the only team apart from the top three with a positive points difference.

Mongers kicked off at Dam waters. Denis Etwau opened the account and touched down. Ebonga missed the extras. David Wako touched down for the second time of the evening after a blistering run. Ebonga missed the extras again. 

Against the run of play Aziz Bagalana took off from the halfway line and touched it down under the posts. Ebonga made the extras this time round. 

Mongers penalty made and whistle was blown for half time. Hosts in comfortable 17-03 lead. Second half got underway and Mongers cut the deficit with another penalty. 17-06. The Mongers were rejuvenated, they made a try with a failed conversion. 

Hippos woke up and Ebonga converted the penalty to take their score to 20. Tawfik Bagalana made the try and Ebonga missed the extras. It was not his day today. 

Knock on Hippos and it’s full time, Hippos with a bonus point win. It was ood match here with kudos to the Hippos as they cemented their position on the table.  They finished fourth despite a very competitive season.
