All is set for match day 2 of the National Hockey League this weekend with five matches to be played on Saturday and one match on Sunday.
Weatherhead HC captain Moses Tushabe Akantu believes that for Weatherhead Hockey Club to become champions of the Uganda Hockey League, they have to treat every opponent mercilessly irrespective of who they are. His comments come as they prepare to take on MUBS on Sunday.
Weatherhead won their opening day fixture 12-0 against WHD Historicals to become joint top with Wananchi. Meanwhile their weekend opponents MUBS lost their opening day fixture 5-1 to MUK and sit 8th on the table.
Celebrating their 12th anniversary, Kampala HC Originals will be taking on Kampala HC Stallions in the local derby. KHC Originals captain Henry Kafuuma has warned his young brothers (KHC Stallions) that the brotherhood shouldn’t flatter them as both teams need the points after losing their opening fixtures to Rockets and City Lions respectively.
Elsewhere, Wananchi Captain Martin Okello believes that their lunch time kickoff encounter against MUK stingers will present a challenge for both teams and he expects the table leaders to walk away with the 3 points. “Makerere has grown into a nice team over the years while we have young players that we are trying to groom. This should therefore make for a good game but we expect to win,” said Okello.
His comments come after the Stingers captain Rooney Aheebwe called upon his teammates to release a statement to all the teams in the league that they are no longer the league debutants. He said, “We know the kind of team Wanainchi is. They have great talent, lots of achievements in the UHL. But with respect, this is a kind of game where we have to send out a statement that we are no longer UHL debutants’ ‘.
Both Wananchi and MUK stingers won their opening day fixtures against WHD Vikings and MUBS respectively.
