A contingent of 21 male and 17 female national hockey players plus the technical team travelled to Nairobi on Wednesday for a series of games with the host nation after the African Hockey Federation cancelled the African Cup qualifiers for the North and East African group which was slated for March 1st to 8th in Nairobi.

The series which is scheduled to start today March 12th to March 14th 2021 will help both teams to prepare for next year’s African Hockey Championship and help Uganda to attain a ranking at the International Hockey Association, a position last held in 2007.

Failure by Tanzania, Sudan, Burundi, Seychelles, and Egypt (Women) hockey teams to confirm their participation by the start of February to the African Hockey Federation pushed the association to cancel the tournament and automatically qualify Uganda and Kenya to the African Hockey Championship to be hosted by Ghana in January 2022.
