This year, Kenya has been invited as a guest team to compete in the tournament, adding an exciting dynamic to the competition. The tournament is slated to take place in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, from June 26th to July 7th, 2024.

Guest team slot awarded to Kenya

Kenya finds itself placed in Group B, alongside formidable opponents Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Comoros. The East African nation’s inclusion in the COSAFA Cup adds a new level of competitiveness to the tournament, as they aim to make their mark against established COSAFA teams.

Kenya men’s national team – Harambee Stars – are set to compete in this year’s Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup set for 26 June to 7 July.

The announcement, made by Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa on Sunday, comes after one of the participating nations – Malawi – pulled out of the 12-team regional tournament.

It is reported that the Malawi Football Association has taken the decision to skip the tournament as they mourn the death of their Vice President Saulos Chilima, who was killed in a plane crash on 10 June.

Harambee Stars will therefore come in as their replacements, joining Group B, which also has Zambia, Comoros and Zimbabwe.

The other groups in the 2024 COSAFA Cup are as follows:

Group A:

  • South Africa
  • Mozambique
  • Eswatini
  • Botswana

Group B:
