Tanzanian football enthusiasts are in for a treat as Singida Black Stars join the ranks of powerhouse clubs Simba SC, Young Africans (Yanga SC), and Coastal Union as they gear up for the prestigious Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Club Cup, also known as the Kagame Interclub Cup.

The tournament, scheduled to take place from July 6th to July 22nd in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar, promises to deliver an electrifying display of talent and sportsmanship.

A blessing in disguise as Azam FC pulls out of the tournament

Singida Black Stars’ inclusion comes as they step in for the formidable Azam FC, who withdrew from the competition to focus on preparations for the upcoming CAF Champions League. The team’s Media and Communication Officer, Hussein Massanza, has confirmed the participation of Singida Black Stars, with the squad set to arrive in Dar es Salaam on July 1st to begin their preparations for the tournament.

“We have decided to utilise the CECAFA Kagame Cup 2024 as part of our technical bench’s programme in preparation for the 2024/2025 season,” Massanza explained.

Three guest clubs to grace CECAFA Club Cup

The CECAFA Club Cup will not only see the clash of regional powerhouses but will also feature three guest teams – TP Mazembe from DR Congo, Nyasa Big Bullets from Malawi, and Red Arrows FC from Zambia – adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition. Additionally, renowned clubs like APR FC from Rwanda, El Merreikh from Sudan, and Gor Mahia FC from Kenya will further intensify the competition, making the CECAFA Kagame Cup 2024 a spectacle of skill and determination among some of East and Central Africa’s finest clubs.

The anticipation surrounding the CECAFA Club Cup has been amplified by the cancellation of the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, emphasizing a focused approach on adequately preparing players for the prestigious Kagame Cup.
