Italian Serie A club Lazio has made headlines in the football world with the announcement of the loan acquisition of talented Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru from Turkish Super Lig side Hatayspor. The news was officially confirmed by Lazio on Saturday through their website, marking an exciting new chapter in Dele-Bashiru’s career.

The loan deal between Lazio and Hatayspor includes the option to buy the midfielder permanently, subject to specific sports conditions being met. Reports circulating earlier in the week revealed that Lazio paid a fee of €2 million to secure the loan, with an additional €4 million required to make the transfer permanent.

Eight goals in his debut Süper Lig season

Dele-Bashiru’s journey to Lazio began on July 6, 2023, when he signed a three-year contract with Turkish club Hatayspor. His impact was felt immediately as he scored eight goals in his debut Süper Lig season, finishing as the club’s joint-leading scorer alongside Carlos Strandberg. Notably, Dele-Bashiru scored a crucial goal on the final matchday, helping secure a vital 2-0 win over Rizespor that ensured Hatayspor’s survival in the top division.

National team call up

The young midfielder’s impressive performances also caught the attention of the Nigeria national team selectors, leading to his call-up in October 2023. Dele-Bashiru marked his international debut in style by scoring a goal in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying match against South Africa, a game that ended 1-1 at Uyo’s iconic Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Dele-Bashiru’s new home

Lazio, a storied club in Italian football, boasts an illustrious history in domestic and European competitions. The Rome-based club has lifted the Coppa Italia trophy seven times, triumphed in the Supercoppa Italiana on three occasions, and clinched the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and UEFA Super Cup once each.

As Dele-Bashiru embarks on this new chapter at Lazio, fans are eager to see how the talented midfielder will adapt to the rigors of Serie A and contribute to the club’s quest for silverware. With his skill set and potential, Dele-Bashiru has the opportunity to make a significant impact on Lazio’s midfield and further enhance his reputation on both the domestic and international stages.
