Jackson ‘Mia-Mia’ Mayanja was one of the instrumental personalities who contributed to ensuring that Kyetume qualified for the Uganda Premier League. But after qualification to the Uganda Premier League, Kyetume FC then acquired the services of Charles Livingstone Mbabazi to lead the team as a head coach.
After a streak of bad performances, the club sacked Charles Livingstone Mbabazi as their head coach and Alex Isabirye took charge of the team. And ever since he took charge, the club has lost 6 consecutive matches, leaving the club in the relegation battle.
This move to replace Alex Isabirye with the veteran Mia Mia as the head coach, according to the club chairperson Ruben Kaggwa Mubiru, was confirmed during a brainstorming meeting with the players.
The change in the technical department was inevitable given the recent poor performance by the club and if anyone was to be given a chance, it would be Mia Mia who brought them to the Uganda Premier League.
Alex Isabirye the former head coach has accepted the decision to work under Mayanja for the betterment of the team, and according to him,” he was approached about the decision and there is no way he could say no, as they all want better performances”.
The club was beaten by Police FC 3:0 over the weekend, but this Tuesday (6th April 2021) Kyetume will host Express in the round of 32 first leg in the Uganda Cup. And what better way for Mayanja to start his debut with a win against one of the most successful clubs in Uganda football.
