Jacob Kiplimo, our very own Ugandan long distance runner has been listed among the 100 athletes to watch during the Tokyo Olympics. As noted by curators – World Athletics, Kiplimo will be fascinating to watch during the Tokyo Olympics, just like the other 99 athletes who will be competing in Japan in this year’s Olympics games.
He made it to the limelight when he clinched the world half marathon title in Gdynia towards the end of last year, where he beat Joshua Cheptegei to finish in first position. The man has been considered by the World Athletics because of his national record of 58:49 and some other underlying performances, versatility, and previously winning global medals at cross country and on the track.
Jacob now joins the long list Athletes, featuring the likes of Ethiopians Roza Dereje, 5,000 Kilometer and 10,000 Kilometer specialist Selemon Barega, Kenyans Hellen Obiri and Valencia Marathon winner Peres Jepchirchir among others.
Kiplimo is known for winning gold at the 3000m event in 12:48.63, Rome Diamond League where he beat Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega to win with 7:26.64 on September 17, and the famous shock that he gave the world again when he upstaged Kandie and fatigued Cheptegei to claim gold at the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships, Gdynia (58:49).
For this year, the Valencia Half Marathon marked the last event of his season and his next competition will come during the Tokyo Olympics games in Japan.
