The 20th Edition of Health Institutions Games has been running for two days now, 44 institutions have turned up for the competitions which will last 5 days.

In order to compete in Athletics, these 44 Institutions were subdivided into 10 regions which include; South Western, Rwenzori, North Eastern, Eastern, Busoga, Acholi, Lango, West Nile, Kampala, and Masaka.

All athletes from the institutions in those particular regions come together to form one team and compete against other regions.

The two days of Athletics have shown Kampala Region’s flag flying high, whose flag posts are held by UIAHMS, whose mantle is held by the likes of Erick Okwi, who have taken Gold in 100m, 200m, and Silver in 400m, following him closely is Opiny Leonard who won Gold in 400m.

In Long races, there is Rubangakene Ronald who has bagged Gold in 10,000m, 5,000m, and Cross country, their dominance has not stopped only in track, they have also bagged Gold in Javelin men, Discuss men, and women.

The above seven medals taken by Kampala Region doesn’t mean there are no closer contenders, closely following them is West Nile Region, who have dominated the Women’s side, winning Bronze in 100m, Gold in 200m and 400m, the same region also won silver in 10,000m and 5,000m.

North Eastern have collected gold in Javelin ladies, Bronze in the high jump and 400m ladies, Muhumuza Gerald picked a bronze in 400m and Kakyo Rose Silver in 100m for Rwenzori region.

Elupe Nancy of Lango got the first Gold in 100ms for her region, a race that West Nile was poised to win.

Wakiso Region fought hard to secure their first medal of Silver through Ojok Daniel, in 100m, a race he should have won Gold if not because of the inexperience in finishing, Okwi Erick beat him by microseconds.

The games continue in the next proceeding days with ball games, Balls games are played at individual school level, not as regions.
