The Ankole Lions today travelled to Nakisunga Saaza Ground (Mukono) to play Kyetume FC who needed a win in order to boost their survival chances for next year in the league. However, the hosts failed to match the strength of Mbarara City who scored three goals. Kyetume FC got one consolation goal thanks to a late penalty in the five additional minutes after the full 90 min.

Mbarara City is in great form, and they have not lost in four consecutive matches in the league, beating the likes of Vipers FC, Police FC, Onduparaka and today Kyetume FC.

Henry Kitegenyi made the difference today with his brace to ensure that the Ankole Lions continued their act of tearing teams apart this second half of the season. Kitegenyi scored the opening goal in the 26th minute, before Mukundane Hilary added another one only three minutes after Mbarara City went up in the game to make it 2:0 going into halftime break.

The two teams returned for the second period, and Mbarara City who were in a demolition mood, made it 3:0 within five minutes of the second half thanks to another Henry Kitengenyi’s brilliantly taken goal. Kyetume FC after going 3:0 down, gave up the ghost and resorted to defending in order to avoid further humiliation at the hands of a well set up Mbarara city side, who looked very dangerous right from the beginning of the game.

In the 90+ minutes, the home team got a chance to pull one back through a late penalty, which Richard Matovu took and converted perfectly to give his side a consolation goal in the game. The final score line at Nakisunga Saaza Ground (Mukono) ended 1:3 in favor of Mbarara City.

Mbarara City now occupy the seventh position in the league with 38 points, where as Kyetume FC remain third from the bottom with 23 points after 27 matches played this season and they are on the brink of being relegated.
