New Lady Cricket Cranes head coach Suraj Karavadra reduced the number of players to 20 in preparation for the 2021 Kwibuka Memorial tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.
The team’s reduced squad started with gym work under the instructions of their head coach alongside Davis Turinawe.
The tournament which kicks off from June 6th to 12th 2021 at the Gahanga International Ground in Kigali is an annual event which has been held since 2014 in remembrance of the victims of the 1994 Genocide.
With the entire world being held hostage by the Covid 19 Pandemic, the tournament was not held last year and this year out of the nine teams invited, only five including the hosts will participate in this annual event.
Among the countries that confirmed participation in this year’s Kwibuka Memorial T20 women’s tournament include hosts Rwanda, two-time champions Uganda, Botswana, Nigeria and Namibia.
The tournament is set to help teams prepare for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa regional qualifiers.
Tanzania are the defending Champions but they will not take part in this year’s tournament along with record winners Kenya (2015, 2017 and 2018). Uganda was the inaugural champion in 2014 and won it for the second and last time in 2016.
