Mbarara City FC hosted Malaba Youth Development Association Football Club in this return fixture Uganda Premier League.
Both teams were coming off power results after they were both knocked out at the round of 32 in the Uganda Cup. Mbarara City FC relinquished their slot to URA FC after a 1 : 0 aggregate loss while MYDA FC were knocked out by Proline FC 5 : 4 on aggregate even after a spirited fight that had seen them win the return fixture against Proline by a 3 : 1 scoreline.
For either sides, a win was needed to wipe away the disappointment of elimination from the Cup.
Mbarara City FC’s Solomon Okwalinga scored early in the 6th minute to declare his side’s intention to win.
MYDA FC responded in the 32nd minute through Mark Bassi to keep the game at 1 : 1 all through to the time halftime whistle.
Play returned but with very little to show which side the match was going to bend.
However, in the 90th minute Raymond Onyai stole the show for Mbarara City FC with a goal that ended the fixture 2 : 1 in favor of the home side.
This result piles misery on MYDA FC who remain 2nd from the bottom of the table on only 6 points after 17 games played this season.
