Loughborough Sport and Loughborough Lightning announced that they will be holding a social media blackout, hours before their Vitality Netball Super league encounter against Saracens Mavericks in solidarity with the wider sporting community.

The boycott which covers all the club’s social media channels is in response to the ongoing discrimination, bullying and racism online aimed at athletes, fans and all members of sport.

With the league’s leading goal scorer in Uganda’s Mary Cholhok, Lightning’s latest practice is meant to protect their most valuable asset and other staff from online racial abuse.

The blackout is meant to cover the entire period of this Friday’s Vitality Netball league game where Cholhok will be looking forward to adding on her 482 goals she has scored so far from 12 appearances.
