Before the game, Lightning announced a social media blackout which covered the whole period of the game. This was in solidarity with the rest of the UK where major sporting organizations and broadcasters like Sky sports and BT sports announced a social media blackout in protest of the ongoing online racial abuse against black football players. The campaign is spearheaded by Thierry Henry who deleted his social media accounts five months ago.
