The 9th April, 2021 encounter against Mbarara City will forever be held in high regard by URA players and fans.
On paper, it seems like the fixture between Mbarara City and URA is a simple game for the Tax collectors to win but the reality is, yesterday was the first time URA won against Mbarara City ever since the latter team was promoted to the UPL.
And this win was after a penalty kick awarded against Mbarara!
Out of the 8 fixtures including the Tax Collectors’ double header in the Uganda Cup this week, this fixture has registered 7 draws. URA dominated most of these encounters but at the end of the day, a draw was the only “revenue” collected by the tax collectors.
In the return leg of their Uganda Cup encounter against Mbarara City, the URA faithful were still cursing the gods when Brian Majwega’s penalty was saved but only to find the net on rebound. Who knows what would have happened if the penalty was missed? Maybe an 8th draw? but still the match would look for the winner since it was a cup game.
URA held on for a 1-0 score line. The cow has been dehorned and the match official says “let the wins start flowing”.
A delighted URA skipper was quick to thank Allah for the day and the win. His joy can only be told by a woman who finally gets relieved off the labor pains. The baby is born and hopefully more wins will come by the tax collectors.
Like his skipper, Coach Sam Ssimbwa was quick to express his relief for finally breaking the jinx. “The character of the team was superb, we were determined to get a result and played for that. Mbarara city is a boogie side that always gives us a hard time so am glad the players followed the instructions to the latter,” said a joyful Simbwa.
Next for URA FC is a home game against giants KCCA at the Arena of Visions in Ndejje in the Uganda Premier League.
