Michael Nuwagaba elected as the new Uganda Cricket Association chairman

Michael Nuwagaba has been elected as the new chairman of Uganda Cricket Association for the next two years. Michael Nuwagaba is a member of Wanderers Cricket Club.

Michael who has been acting as Uganda Cricket Association’s secretary replaces Bashir Badu Ansasira whose term in office ended on Saturday May 29th 2021 after serving two terms.

Ansasira held the post of the association’s chairmanship for four years across two terms and is credited for making cricket more popular in Uganda on top of improving the national brand.

Ansasira was in March this year elected to serve on the ICC chief executives committee and the ICC development committee until the end of the annual conference week 2021. The conference is slated for September 19th – September 21st 2021.

Other elective positions saw Alvin Bagaya Mboijana from Nile Cricket Club being elected as the new secretary while Rita Tinka was elected as the women’s representative

Rita Tinka previously served as a board member for the Uganda Cricket Association in charge of women affairs and as a secretary for the association on an interim basis. She is credited for fronting the move for equal pay for all cricketers regardless of gender.

In related developments, the Cricket Cranes head coach Laurence Mahatlane visited Western Uganda over the weekend in search of new cricket talent.  Together with the development officer Grace Mutyagaba, the head coach will visit Nyakasura and the cricket community in Kasese the coming week.
