Following a meeting held by CAF emergency committee members, a decision to cancel the AFCON U-17 tournament was finally reached on Monday in Rabat Morocco.
The committee’s decision was based on the difficulties faced by teams which were meant to participate as well as the increased restrictions set by the host country on people travelling to Morocco.
The committee noted that cancellation of the FIFA U-17 world cup made the decision a bit easier since the tournament was going to act as a qualifier.
The committee further cited the resurgence of the Covid19 pandemic, increased restrictions on international travel and uncertainty about the evolution of the situation as the key factors to the cancellation of the tournament.
A decision is yet to be made on whether the tournament will be rescheduled or nullified.
