Former Uganda Cranes player, FIFA players’ agent and Proline FC director Mujib Kasule has declared his intention to run for Uganda’s soccer governing body’s top most job. He becomes the 3rd person to show interest in becoming the next FUFA president after the incumbent Eng.Mosses Magogo declared his intention last week and Makindye East MP Allan Ssewanyana declared his yesterday.
In a live stream from Mckinnon suits, Mujib Kasule proposed for a professional body to run women football and FUFA Big League. He went ahead to propose an immediate investment of funds worth UGX 500 M for Big League, and UGX 300M for the women league.
If elected, Mujib promised UPL clubs to earn each UGX 100M and a further UGX 125M to 8 FUFA regions. It is yet to be established where the source of funding will come from.
It is remembered that the former FUFA vice president was thrown out of the presidential contest in the 2017 general elections under unclear circumstances after picking the nomination forms and paying UGX 3M in the bank.
In a statement then, the FUFA electoral committee said that Mujib appeared before the committee about 4:30 pm shortly before the closure of business and yet he was booked for 2:30 pm. This prompted the committee to disqualify him and declare the Incumbent Magogo the sole candidate.
It will only be a matter of time for the nation to discover if Mujib has learnt his lessons and ready for the challenge. As it is said, “Once bitten twice shy”.
