Nam Blazers outclassed defending Champions City Oilers with the full time score being 66-71. This win over such a strong side offers them great confidence going into their first season back in the top flight.
Odong Paul scored a team and game high 22 points for the Namuwongo based outfit. He made 13 points in the second quarter which they won 23-7. This was hugely boosting since they started off the first quarter lazily missing their first seven shorts. City Oilers controlled the first quarter with a 17-16 lead.
The Oilers began the 3rd quarter in a high commanding tempo at least for the first minutes with Jimmy Armani making a 3 pointer to open the score for the Champions. Both teams cancelled each other out and the Blazers came out victor 54-52.
City Oilers made it a habit to start each quarter well with Ivan Muhwezi making a three point to take the early lead in the fourth quarter. However, former Oilers player Azolibe Francis had other ideas as he restored Nam Blazers lead. Daniel Jjuko who ended the evening with 11 points extended Nam Blazers lead to 56-53.
It was a thrilling action packed end to end affair that Nam Blazers were well drilled enough to hold on to the win at full time. Chris Omanye and Jjuko Daniel’s 11 points were only bettered by Paul Odong’s 22 with Geoffrey Soro making 10. David Deng was impressive with game high ten rebounds that produced eight points.
There was enough fight shown by City Oilers especially from Jimmy Emanuel who made a team high 19 points with captain James Okello making ten.
