Makindye Division mayor Ali Mulyanyama officially opened the netball league as Weyonje beat UPDF 47-35 while NIC edged Uganda X 65-62.

The league has been off for almost a year since almost all sports in the country came to a standstill because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last weekend brought us the return of the  netball league at Police Children’s School court in Kiviri.

Luwero’s Uganda X lost to defending champions NIC in their opening game of the league.

Uganda X are a newly promoted side to the league and they suffered a 65-62 loss to NIC thanks to She Cranes super star Oyella Stella who ended the day with 52 goals.

Vicky Nantumbwe had 8 shots while Milky Nyadoi chipped in with 5

In other news, Ali Mulyanyam’s Weyonje beat UPDF 47-35.

POSTA were scheduled to play Prisons and KCCA had a date against Police.

Prisons and Police showed up while the other two opponents did not with an excuse of being unprepared for the league opener

Their fixtures will have to be played at a later date as communicated by tournament organizers.

UCU whose students just returned from holidays say they can only take part after a month because their players have not been training.

This Saturday will see the second round of the league played with teams playing from their home courts.
