New kids on the block, Orange Blockbusters advanced to the finals of the 2021 Ndejje University Open after winning all their group C matches. The two-day volleyball tournament that kicked off on Saturday saw Sunday’s countrywide rain disrupt much of the day’s program. This forced the tournament organizers to push the final to Thursday.

The team from Iganga is coached by Lawrence Yakan and recruited volleyball star players like John Bosco Opendi and John Mark Okurut. It  will face hosts Ndejje University in a heavily anticipated final and afterwards they will proceed to Kabale for another volleyball tournament.

It should be noted that the Ndejje Open was the only volleyball tournament of 2020 before the lockdown. Nemo Stars, who are the defending champions, did not take part since they were in Tunisia. The volleyball federation hopes to use the tournament as a litmus test for the sport’s preparedness to return.
