With the first round of the 2021 Super Netball League fixtures drawing to a close, Sunshine coast Lightning head coach Kylee Byrne’s alteration plan came as a blessing to Uganda’s Peace Proscovia who has struggled for the past one and a half years. Her form had deeply fallen below what is expected from her.
During match day seven against Giants netball team, Kylee decided to move Wood to WA and Koenen to GA thus turning her attention to Uganda’s Peace Proscovia. The Ugandan was brought on and took her chance with two hands scoring 16 points from 16 shots in the final quarter to win the game for the table leaders.
The match winning move earned her the player of the match accolade. Her ball holding style suited well in a game that needed her experience and calmness.
For most of the season, Peace Proscovia has been under the shadow of team mate Koena who has been favored ahead of the Ugandan because of the way she positions herself. Many believe that Peace’s game style has made many of her teammates struggle with adjusting to it but round seven of league fixtures turned out to be a master class.
With the league at halfway point, it is left for Peace to pick herself up and inspire confidence in her head coach Kylee when Lightning play Magpies on 26th June 2021 in the first match of the second round fixtures.
She is that target that will always come to the team’s rescue if we are to go by her performance against Giants where it was all going wrong until she was called on to execute the game plan.
