Police FC striker Derrick Kakooza who completed Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U-20 championship in Mauritania as the tournament top scorer is over the moon with his first national team call for the senior side Uganda Cranes. Derrick Kakooza has been named among the squad to face South African side Bafana Bafana in an international friendly match on the 12th June 2021.

The Police FC young striker who was very instrumental for Uganda U-20 team during the Africa Cup of Nations U-20 championship in Mauritania is very jubilant about his call to play for the national team side against South Africa in a friendly match.  Speaking to the media, Kazooza branded his call to the first team as a dream come true as he had always wanted to graduate to the Uganda Cranes senior team and the young star promised to work hard in order to maintain the form for years.

For a player his age, I must say that career wise, Kakooza is rising to the top rapidly. He has already made his debut in the Uganda Premier League with Police FC, a club that has offered him enough playing time to shine in the league.

He is among the many young players summoned for the international friendly match, all of whom graduated from the U-20 national team. Other young stars like Aziz Kayondo, Gavin Kizito Mugweri, Kenneth Ssemakula, Bobosi Byaruhanga, Isma Mugulusi and Richard Basangwa, are also among the names summoned for this particular tournament.

Kakooza and his new teammates will begin training on Monday 31st May 2021, and he will be happy to learn from the newly selected Uganda Cranes captain in Emmanuel Okwii.

We wish the young star the best of luck with his first International call and we hope that he replicates the success he had with the U-20 team.
