The initial vaccination of rugby players and officials was scheduled for Wednesday, 2nd June.

However, the process was postponed with the Union announcing the change over their official social media channels.

The postponement was caused by a delay in the delivery of the vaccine from the Ministry of Health to the implementing team for the scheduled exercise.

On Thursday 3rd, the Uganda Rugby Union announced that the exercise would take place on Friday, 4th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The process was ongoing at the Kyadondo Rugby grounds. Observing the SOPs, a large number of players and officials have taken their first jab of the vaccine.

This exercise comes at a time when the country’s number of COVID-19 cases is on the rise. With the Basketball league suspended, FUFA banning fans from stadiums.

The vaccination will come as a boost to the rugby fraternity as most of the National teams are in preparation for international tournaments. The rugby 15s will play in the annual Elgon cup later this month.
