The Sand Cranes faced record Cup Holders Senegal in their first match in the AFCON Beach Soccer Opener.
The Lions of Teranga have won the tournament 5 times 3 better than Nigeria.
This edition is Uganda’s maiden bow in the tournament. It was a tough contest against a physical Senegal side well known for playing a high octane pressing game.
The group A contest ended in a 5-1 loss to Uganda. The consolation goal was scored by Maroons FC’s Ismail Kawawulo.
Senegal dominated all three quarters of the game. Royal Mendy and Fah Babacas both scored braces for the champions. No oh Diatta also scored a goal to seal the win.
Next up for Uganda is a match with Tanzania on Monday 24th May 2021.
Uganda are in group A in a rescheduled fixture. DRC did not honor the invitation to take part. Therefore Uganda was put in Group A alongside arch rivals and neighbors Tanzania and Senegal.
