Uganda Sand Cranes team put up a stellar performance in their debut appearance at the AFCON beach soccer tournament.
They were in Group B with Senegal and neighbours Tanzania. The Cranes had it all to do in their first game against formidable West African giants Senegal. They put up a decent performance in a 5-1 loss.
The second game was against fellow East African neighbours Tanzania. In an impressive display, the Cranes won 4-3. This put them in a good position to finish second and qualify for the semi-finals.
Uganda automatically qualified when Senegal beat Tanzania 3-1. Uganda faced Mozambique in the semifinals of the tournament.
They lost 6-3 in a spirited fight to qualify for the finals. The Uganda Cranes’ performance was an overall success given the fact this was their first time appearing at the tournament.
Efforts awarded
FUFA announced they have awarded the 24 man squad a total of UGX 185.9M for their exceptional performance at the AFCON beach soccer tournament. This money is as per the FUFA allowance and bonus system for their exceptional performance at the 2021 AFCON BEACH Soccer tournament in Senegal, West Africa.
Each member will also be entitled to UGX 7.7M for the 22 days spent in camp preparing for and taking part in the tournament.
