The draw of the round of 16 tie in the Uganda cup conducted by two former Express FC players, pitted Onduparaka FC against SC villa. On Labour Day today, was the day Villa travelled to Onduparaka for the first leg of the round of 16 Uganda Cup tie, SC villa scored a late 89th minute goal to take home the first leg away advantage in the fixture.
The 1 – 0 score line has defined SC Villa’s wins over Onduparaka for almost 3 consecutive meetings between the two sides, with two of them coming in the league and one today in the Uganda Cup. But for today you could say pedigree helped SC Villa to hold their nerves to salvage this win, as the Caterpillars dominated the game looking dangerous in attack with 112 attacking threats as compared to Villa’s 106, and they also had a better ball possession for most of the time at 52% as opposed to SC villa 48%.
But in a cup game, the goals are the only outcome that counts, and today villa manages to obtain that for their fans, and finishes the first leg of this tie 1 – 0 in their favor.
The second leg between these two teams is scheduled for May 11th, where Onduparaka will travel to Kampala. But the Men from Arua need more than they did today to try and keep their participation alive in this year’s Uganda Cup.
