At 4:00 PM Bombo Stadium today, many URA supporters expected their team to capitalize on the golden opportunity to go two points clear on the UPL table after yesterday’s Vipers result, when Bright stars held table leaders Vipers football Club to a goalless draw. On the lips of every Uganda league football fan , the question is how important the URA title ambition is this season for the players and the club. This sort of missed opportunities is expected in football but for a team looking to win the title, this match was like a final but unfortunately for the tax men they failed to capitalize on their chance against the very defensive SC Villa and finished the game goalless in Bombo today.
The Uganda Revenue Authority came into the game needing maximum points to overtake and stay 2 points clear of Vipers at the summit who were earlier held by Wakiso Giants. They started the proceedings in Bombo brightly but failed to penetrate the SC Villa defence who countered all the URA attempts to score any goal.
At this point in the competition, they needed to keep up the momentum and win almost all their matches if they were to win the trophy they last won 10 years ago. But for today’s match they fell short, as they needed to break the resilient Villa side to capitalise on their advantage.
Tactically nobody understands what happened to URA today, but as it stands they are still tied up with Vipers on 43 points who have a superior goal difference. Whereas their opponent SC Villa are now 6th on the log with 30 points after going three games with no win and drawing two while losing one on the other hand.
URA’s next fixture will be a trip to Kavumba, where they will play Bright Stars on Saturday while SC Villa will make a long trip to Mbarara City on the same day.
