Northern RFA Stanbic Uganda Cup Preliminary Round II - Tuesday Results.
Five of the the six games on card were physically played on Tuesday, 2nd January 2023 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Preliminary Round II in the Northern Region Football Association.
Oyam based side, Blue Stars FC axed Elite FC out of the tournament, beating Emma Ocaa coached side 2-1 at Oyam Boma ground. Kibir Oyuru scored the opener for the host, Elite's Markos Odur leveled the matters before the two moved for recess tied up. Daniel Otim's second half own goal was enough to separate two.
Three red cards were witnessed in this game, two players and an official. Ocaa's Elite FC were reduced to 9 men, both Finka Ssemutai and Isaac Okello were shown matching orders for dangerous tackles. Emma Ocaa, Elite FC Head Coach was sent out of the touchline after a second booking by the center referee after consultations from the forth official.
This marked the end of the journey of last season's name maker who beat the then Big Dog Arua Hill SC on penalties at Lira Town College playground to progress to the round of 32 after a two all draw, a game that attracted thousands of local football lovers both within the country and abroad to interest themselves in knowing more about Elite FC before they got eliminated by Adjumami T.C FC 2-1 at Paridi Stadium in West Nile.
Olokile FC beat National Youth FC 6-5 on penalties after a goalless draw in normal time at Community Church ground, Pader district. Both sides couldn't find the back of the next after playing 90 minutes and their fate had to be decided from the penalty spot. Olokile FC progresses to the next round and awaits who they shall be drawn against in Acholi Sub region.
In Amuru district, Homeland Utd beat Lwani FC 2-1 at Pabbo Primary School playground. Both Homeland Utd and Lwani FC hadn't played a physical game in the preliminary round I, the narrow win sees the Amuru based side through to the next stage.
Last season's round of 32 representative, JLOS FC got extinguished from the tournament by Atanga RedBull FC on penalty shootout out losing 5-4 after a one all draw at Lacetocot primary school playground in Pader district. Oscar Ronald Obedi and Ivan Mwaka scored for Atanga RedBull FC and JLOS FC respectively in the normal time.
In Lango Sub region, Amati FC is yet to play a game physically after two rounds of Stanbic Uganda Cup Preliminary stages whereby opponents have failed to turn up for the game.
First was Gazelles FC, a corporate league club from Lira City who registered for the tournament but never turned up on match day at Amati Primary School playground for the first preliminary round, earning Amati FC a free entry to the second round.
On Tuesday 2nd January, Regional League side Saviors FC who progressed to next round as a bye didn't turn up for the game. This leaves the clubs' status in the 3rd tyre league hanging in balance since it's mandatory for clubs in the top three tiers to take part in the competition.
This could earn the former FUFA Big League side sanctions that includes points deducted and fines. Saviors FC has lost all their nine first round fixtures of Northern Regional League and sits rock bottom.
SC Tawai beat Lira based City Boys FC 2-1 at Angwecibange Primary School playground, Ivan Okwany and Opio scored for the home team. Last season SC Tawai traveled was eliminated by Mbarara City (2-1) from the round of 64. They have booked a slot for themselves in the next round in a bid to represent Lango Sub region (Northern RFA) in round of 64 for third consecutive season.
There are six more games to be played to conclude the second preliminary round on Wednesday 3rd January 2024 with the biggest game being the Lira City derby between Northern Gateway SC and Lira City Council FC at UTC Lira playground.
