The Red Devils side and Borussia Dortmund are in negotiations over a possible deal for Jadon Sancho to return to the Bundesliga club on loan. The English winger is keen on the move after more than four months without a game.
Borussia Dortmund sold Sancho to United for an initial £73m in July 2021. Talks between the two centre on a loan fee and salary coverage, with only a temporary transfer feasible for the youngster. Any deal might require United to pay a significant portion of Sancho's wages, given the huge increase he received when he signed for the Red Devils.
United’s manager Erik Ten Hag has demanded an apology from the 23-year-old English winger and ostracised him from the first-team squad for calling the gaffer a liar way back in September 2023, and has not played a game from that date.
Jadon Sancho wasn't part of Man Utd team that lost 3-2 at Arsenal, Ten Hag said it was because the England international had not met the standards required in training. Soon after, Sancho posted on social media that the explanation was “completely untrue”. He claimed he was being made a scapegoat.
United have been open to offers for the winger with no resolution to the stand-off in sight, and now he could be set for a return to Dortmund.
The England international's contract at Old Trafford is up in 2026, with United holding the option to extend for a further year.
Sancho thrived at Borussia Dortmund in the three seasons before his transfer to United and left after scoring 50 goals and providing 64 assists in 137 appearances. He believes German Bundesliga side would be an ideal environment to find his best form again.
Fifth in the Bundesliga log, Dortmund have made Sancho and a left-back their priority January targets.
Sancho, who has been training with United’s under -18s, made three substitute appearances in August before his fallout with Ten Hag. He has not played for the Red Devils since a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on August 26.
