The Uganda Teen Cranes progressed to the next round of the U17 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers after a comfortable win against Cameroon.
After a one all draw at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende the Teen Cranes picked a 3-1 important win on the road to qualify to next round of the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
The game was played at Stade Militaire in Yaoundé.
Coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes made only two changes from the team that had started at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende a week ago with Joyce Kainza and Ritah Nambuusi starting ahead of Tamisi Shafiga and Promise Kwagalakwe respectively.
Midway the first half Kainza got injured and was replaced by Dorcus Kisakye.
Sylvia Kabene opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, capitalizing on an error by the Cameroon goalkeeper.
Esther Nangendo doubled the lead in the 25th minute with her corner kick delivery going straight into the back of the net.
In the second half Cameroon doubled their efforts and finally got their consolation goal in the second minute of stoppage time.
Agnes Nabukenya sealed the scores with a well taken free kick in the last minute of stoppage time.
The result means Uganda U17 Women’s National Team progresses to the third qualification round 4-2 on aggregate and will face the winner between Zambia or Tanzania.
