This Saturday, 6th January at Hardmarks boxing club kirombe in Lira City at 4pm. Boxing sparring will be fire, as players prepare themselves for the forthcoming grading games in about two weeks time.
On Thursday 18th January, an upgrade games shall take place at Lira Town College. All players from Lango Sub region shall be taking part in the grading apart from Black belters.
Players in the White belt category will be upgrading to yellow belt. The Yellow crew shall be pushing themselves to the Green belt group as those in Green aim for Blue belt. Lango Boxers in the Blue belt class shall be eyeing Red belt and the Red team set for Black.
The upgrade will be performance based earned on merit, no short cuts to the next categorization. Only players in the Black belt classification won't upgrade.
Black is the last grade but is categorized from 1st degree upto the 9th degree. Black belters are supposed to upgrade after every two years by masters like master Niklas Enander Dan VII from Sweden.
Those who shall fail to up their performance on 18th January will remain in their current category and wait for the next grading competition.
Boxing, Kick Boxing and Taekwondo has seen a number of players in Lango get better opportunities mostly in the forces; Prison, Police and Military sports department. This earn the fighters a living as they continue to exercise their talents. The game is gender inclusive; both male and female categories take part.
Boxing has remained unpopular in Lango because most people, parents and guardians have a very negative perception about the game, associating it to violence and high crime rate. However, professional fighters are very disciplined personalities who mean business to earn themselves a living just like any other sports discipline.
