Technical Center – Njeru, Jinja Selected To Host the FUFA Big League Playoffs

The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA)  has selected the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru, Jinja to host the 2020/2021 Big League promotional playoff games.

Four clubs including Proline, Nyamityobora, Gadafi and Blacks Power qualified for this season’s playoffs slated to take place at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru, Jinja. FUFA has confirmed 27th – 29th June as the tentative dates for the 2020/2021 Big League promotional playoff games.

A FUFA statement signed by competitions director Aisha Nalule has ordered each of the four clubs to submit a list of 25-man contingent comprising of 20 players and five officials who will be subjected to mandatory COVID-19 testing before entering camp.

Each of the four entities has therefore been ordered to pay Shs 5.5m to the FUFA account that will cater for the COVID-19 PCR tests and meals for the period the clubs will be residing at Njeru.

Rwenzori group runners up Proline (29 points) will face Blacks Power who finished third in Elgon (22 points) while Gaddafi FC which came second in Elgon group will lock horns with Nyamityobora who were third in Rwenzori.

The two winners from the two ties will meet in the final to determine the third team that will join Arua Hill SC and Tooro United as the teams promoted to Uganda Premier League next season.

Arua Hill topped the Elgon group (30 points) unbeaten while Tooro United (31 points) claimed the summit of the Rwenzori group to gain automatic promotion to the top tier.

The two teams will tussle it out in the final to determine the 2020/2021 FUFA Big League champion at a date yet to be determined.

Which final club will get promoted to the Uganda Premier League?

Any of Gaddafi, Nyamityobora, Blacks Power or Proline will be the third club to be promoted to the Uganda Premier League from the 2021 FUFA Big League

Gaddafi’s player and top scorer James Otim will face Nyamityobora in the semi-final of the FUFA Big League 2021 looking to extend a steller campaign and gain his team promotion to the UPL.

FUFA Big League 2021 (Playoffs) Fixtures:

1st Match (113): Gaddafi Vs Nyamityobora – 2 PM

2nd Match (114): Proline Vs Blacks Power – 4 PM

Third place playoff (115): Winner 113 vs Winner 114 – 2 PM

Final (116): Arua Hill Vs Tooro United – 4 PM

The 2021 FUFA Big League has four matches to be completely done and dusted.
These will be the play-offs that include three games for the four remaining clubs to determine the third side that will make the Uganda Premier League grade.

The final game will be between the Rwenzori and Elgon group winners; Tooro United against Arua Hill to decide who the champion of the 2021 FUFA Big League is.

Match 113 will be between Gaddafi and Nyamityobora at 2 PM.
Gaddafi is coached by Hassan Zzungu while promotional specialist Richard Makumbi is at Nyamityobora.

This will be followed by match 114 between Proline and Blacks Power at 4 PM.
Gaddafi fell in their last game of the regular season; losing 3-2 away to Calvary.

Nyamityobora overcame Terrazo and Tiles 2-0 in the epic Mbarara derby at Kakyeka stadium.

Proline, under head coach Anthony “Cassano” Bongole, ended with victory; smiling 3-1 over Water at the MTN Omondi stadium in Lugogo.

Bukedea based Blacks Power lost 2-1 away to Maroons at the Prisons stadium in Luzira in Kampala.

Direct Promotion

Tooro United (Rwenzori group) and Arua Hill (Elgon group) were promoted directly to the Uganda Premier League.

Tooro United thus came top in the Rwenzori group with 31 points; ahead of Proline (29) and Nyamityobora (24).

On the other hand, Arua Hill beat already relegated Paidha Black Angels 4-0 at the Barifa playground in Arua city.

Relegated clubs

Four clubs were relegated after the completion of the regular season.

Kigezi Home Boyz as well as Terrazo and Tiles were both in the Rwenzori group.

Mbale Heroes and Paidha Black Angels fell in the Elgon group.

The FUFA Executive committee is expected to convene as soon as possible so as to pass the verdict of the relegated clubs considering the fact that the federation confirmed there will be no action in the FUFA Regional leagues.

Last season, Malaba Youth Development Association (MYDA), Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Kitara were promoted to the UPL from the FUFA Big League.
