After the fourth window of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, the Uganda Silverbacks fell to disarray.
The Silverbacks’ agony was made worse by the fact that they dropped to last place in Group E after failing to win all three of their games in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The outcomes all but put an end to Uganda’s tenuous chances of making it to the 2023 FIBA World Cup in Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines..
Uganda started their campaign on Friday with a loss to Angola and lost to the host Ivory Coast and Guinea on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
For the fifth window, which has not yet been determined, they will play the same teams in February of the following year.
Uganda is at this level in part as a result of Mali leaving the stage before.
A four-team group needed three teams to move on to the second round from the first round.
Three teams (Uganda, Nigeria, and Cape Verde) were left in Group A after Mali withdrew due to a players’ strike.
These three teams advanced directly to the second round.
From the first round to the second round, the results of each team are carried over.
The remaining 12 teams are divided into two teams of six for the second round, which is being played under two windows (4th and 5th), with each team playing each new team in their group twice.
