The collective sports mood is elated all over Uganda after the national U-20 football team confidently hammered their Tunisian counterparts in a thrilling semi – final of the 2021 AFCON U-20 on Monday evening. The 4 – 1 win comes as a continuation of a good show of results for the Hippos in the competition taking place in Mauritania.

The Hippos put a claim on the game right from the start. A 5th minute strike from Viper’s Richard Basangwa showed that the Hippos meant business before Man of the match Derick Kakooza doubled the lead with a fine tap in from a cross by Basagwa in the 36th minute.

The Tunisians thought that they would make a comeback after reducing the lead through a goal from Ben Lamin before halftime but the hippos quickly restored their lead at the start of the second half through a fine header from Kakooza in the 50th minute who finally completed his hat-trick  with a fine finish in the 73rd minute to become the tournament’s top scorer with five goals and an assist.

With this emphatic win, the U-20 Cranes have booked their place in a final on Saturday against arch rivals Ghana who beat Gambia 1 – 0 in the other semi – final.
