Having beaten Burkina Faso by 5 – 3 on penalties to qualify for the semi-finals of the AFCON U-20 in Mauritania, the U-20 Cranes (Hipos) set up a mouth watering tie with Tunisia on Monday evening.
With the quarter final result yet to be determined, the Hipos have already qualified for the 2021 FIFA U-20 World Cup due to their appearance in the last 8 of the 2021 edition of the AFCON U-20.
However this improved U-20 football side will not be able to take the world stage in the 23rd edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup. The tournament that was meant to be hosted by Indonesia was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Hipos will have to play the semi-final against Tunisia with a special kind of energy as the cancellation of the world event has denied them what would have been Uganda’s first-ever appearance in a final tournament of FIFA at any level.
