Aggregate: Uganda 4-0 Tanzania
Uganda Cranes have qualified for the African Nations Championship in Algeria after a 4-0 aggregate win against Tanzania.
This followed a 3-0 home win against the neighbors at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende.
Uganda grabbed an important 1-0 away win last month before today’s encounter.
Moses Waiswa, Richard Basangwa, and Rogers Mato capitalized on Travis Mutyaba’s away cracker to seal the 4-0 aggregate win.
Moses Waiswa broke the deadlock in the 16th minute scoring from the spot following a foul on Rogers Mato in the penalty area.
Richard Basangwa doubled the lead for the Cranes in the 54th minute with a diving header from a well-taken Moses Waiswa’s free kick.
Rogers Mato finally got on the score sheet in the 75th minute to make it 3-0.
This is the sixth time Uganda is qualifying for the final tournament following five consecutive appearances.
The Cranes only missed out on the 2009 Inaugural tournament in Ivory Coast but since then they have not missed any single tournament.
Only DR Congo, Libya, Morocco, and Zimbabwe have as many appearances as Uganda in the tournament.
All the five times Uganda Cranes have appeared at the final tournament they have not gone past the group stages.
The final tournament will be hosted in Algeria next year between the 8th and 30th of January 2023.
