The Uganda Cranes defeated Tanzania 1-0 in the CHAN qualifying first leg match on Sunday at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Tanzania.
A lone goal from substitute Travis Mutyaba guided Uganda Cranes to victory.
Travis was substituted on for Milton Karisa in the 70th minute by Cranes head coach Milutin Sredojevic, and in the 86th, he scored the game’s lone goal after stealing the ball from Tanzanian forward Mohammad Hussein to move past his marker and shoot past a helpless Aishi Manula.
Moments later, Tanzania came close to tying the score, but Daniel Lyanga’s goal was disallowed because he was deemed to be offside.
Apart from the goals scored by the Uganda Cranes and Tanzania’s offside attempt, the game was uninteresting as neither team was able to create many quality chances up front.
Micho’s team gains the upper hand going into the second leg, which will be held in St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in Uganda, on September 3.
The aggregate winner between Uganda and Tanzania will qualify for the CHAN finals slated for January 2023 in Algeria.
